Halesowen sits in a handy spot, with Hagley and Romsley to one side and Cradley Heath to the other. If you live in any of those areas, our training centre on Stourbridge Road is within easy reach. This guide is for anyone in or around Hagley, Romsley or Cradley Heath who’s thinking about starting Wing Chun with us.
Finding us
Our address is Unit 1C, Eagle Trading Estate, Stourbridge Road, Halesowen B63 3UA, with parking on site. Before your first session, have a look at our directions so you’re not hunting for the door at 7:10 pm.
The timetable
We run classes Monday to Friday:
- Children (5 to 11): 6:00 pm to 6:55 pm
- Adults: 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm (7:05 pm to 8:05 pm on Fridays)
There are no weekend classes, but five weekday evenings give plenty of choice. Most students pick two or three regular evenings and build their week around them.
Will a regular journey actually work for you?
Before you book anything, it’s worth being honest with yourself about the practicalities. Wing Chun rewards steady, regular attendance far more than bursts of enthusiasm, so the question isn’t really “can I get there once?” but “can I get there twice a week for the next year?” A few things to think through:
- What time do you finish work? Adult classes start at 7:15 pm (7:05 pm on Fridays). If you’re usually home by six, that leaves time to eat something light and set off without rushing.
- Which evenings are genuinely free? Look at your week and pick two you can protect. Five weekday options makes this easier than it sounds.
- Who else is involved? If you have children, partners or caring responsibilities, talk it through at home first. A plan the whole household knows about is much easier to stick to.
- What happens in winter? Dark evenings test everyone’s motivation. Having fixed nights, and ideally someone to train with, helps enormously.
From the villages: Hagley and Romsley
If you’re coming from the quieter, semi-rural side to the south, you’re probably used to driving for most things anyway. If you’re a parent, you may like the fact that the children’s class runs from 6:00 pm to 6:55 pm, so a child can train straight after tea and still be home at a sensible hour on a school night.
From Cradley Heath
From Cradley Heath it’s a short hop along the valley. If you work in the Black Country, it’s often easiest to come straight from work, get changed at the centre and be on the floor for 7:15 pm.
Tips for students travelling in
- Arrive ten minutes early for your first class, to park and settle.
- Come changed in comfortable training clothes if you can, to save time.
- Bring water and leave jewellery at home.
- Keep a regular routine. Choosing fixed evenings makes the journey feel like part of your week rather than an effort.
- Share a lift if you know someone else from your area who trains.
- Plan a fallback evening for weeks when your usual night falls through, so one missed session doesn’t turn into three.
Quick answers for new students
I’ve never done a martial art. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Most of our adult students started with no experience, and every child starts from the beginning.
Can I bring someone to watch?
Yes. The viewing area is there for exactly that. Even better, bring them along to train with you.
What if I can’t make the same evening every week?
That’s fine. With classes Monday to Friday, you can move between evenings as your week changes.
Do I have to sign up on the first night?
No. Try a class first, see how the journey feels in practice, and decide afterwards. When you’re ready, the training costs page sets out the membership options.
What if the weather’s bad?
If the roads are ever genuinely unsafe, use your judgement and stay at home. Send me a text on 07821 126 685 if you’re unsure whether a class is going ahead.
