Parents often ask me the same thing after a kids’ class: “What can we practise at home without turning the living room into a dojo?” Fair question. Children remember more when they touch the material again between sessions — but they also need something clear, short and age-appropriate, not a vague “go and train”.
That’s why the Halesowen Wing Chun Digital Academy includes a full Kids’ Zone. It sits on Skool alongside the adult stages, uses the same sash idea we use in the club, and is built for families who train with us in Halesowen — or who want structured home practice when they can’t get in every evening.
What the Kids’ Zone actually is
The Kids’ Zone is the children’s side of our online academy. On the Premium and VIP memberships it covers every children’s sash level from White through to Black, with video lessons organised so a child (with a parent nearby) can follow the next piece of the syllabus without guessing.
It is not a live Zoom class, and there are no calls. Everything is pre-recorded, so you use it when homework is done and energy allows — five minutes before bed or a short session at the weekend. Progress tracking (points and levels) sits in the Skool app as well as in a browser, which helps keep younger students interested.
Our Wing Chun comes through the Ip Man lineage, via Grandmaster Ip Chun and Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe of the Midlands Wing Chun Kuen. Online or in the hall, it’s the same system — just a different way to revise the building blocks.
How it fits with kids’ classes in Halesowen
I founded the club in 2013, and children’s classes still sit at the heart of what we do. Kids train Monday to Friday, 6:00pm to 6:55pm, at Unit 1C, Eagle Trading Estate, Stourbridge Road, Halesowen B63 3UA. In those sessions we use age-appropriate, supervised sparring as part of the class, and children grade through coloured sashes.
The online Kids’ Zone is the companion, not the replacement. Use it to:
- Rewatch a stance, form section or drill from the last class
- Keep a light routine going over a half-term or when one evening is missed
- Let brothers and sisters practise the same material together at home
- Give parents a clear picture of what “the next sash” is aiming at
If you want the full picture of how we teach children in person, start with our children’s Wing Chun classes page and the children’s gradings overview.
White Sash upwards — a clear path
Children like knowing what comes next. Our grading path runs White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Red, then Junior Black. The Kids’ Zone is organised around those sash levels, so home practice stays aligned with what we look for in class rather than drifting into random YouTube clips.
A sensible home habit looks like this: short warm-up, one video segment, then practise the same thing slowly two or three times. Stop while it’s still fun. Film a short clip on a phone if you want a record — and remember that personal video review from me is VIP only on the academy, not a general feature of every tier.
What about adults in the same household?
Plenty of families have a child in the early class and a parent in the adult session afterwards. Adults train Monday to Thursday, 7:15pm to 8:15pm, and Friday, 7:05pm to 8:05pm, with partner work we call applications rather than sparring. The academy’s adult stages (Stages 1 to 6, White Sash through to Chum Kiu) sit in the same Skool community, so a household can share one membership path that suits both — details and tier outlines are on the learn Wing Chun online page.
Skool shows prices in US dollars. There are no live sessions. Standard includes Stage 1 material and community access; Premium unlocks the full adult Stages 1–6 syllabus and the full Kids’ Zone; VIP adds advanced weapons material and personal video review. Pick the tier that matches what you need — I’m not here to push one as “best value”.
